Additional information

I have a weird tendency to publish the least exciting episodes when I come back from a small hiatus… Not the biggest fan of this ep myself – it should have been the first half of “Course Correction” (our next episode), as it would be more poignant back-to-back. Oh well, you win some, you lose some and you ‘meh’ some. Keep your fingers crossed that I’ll bring the next episode in a timely fashion. Next week, perhaps? One can only hope.

Magnificent work once again Koobs! I’m really glad to see this aspect of the story furthered, I hope I’m not alone in saying that the mystery in these facets of the MS mythos are some of the most compelling, at least for me. Your current take on the Crucible (who knows what further tricks you have in store :-)) as a Reaper trap, an example of their forsight, that they acknowledged that their Citadel-launchpad trap may not always work as planned, echoes my own thoughts during my playthrough of ME3, up until the last 10 minutes ofcourse..

That even should their plan to revel in their manipulation of oranic species’ sloth and hubris into accepting the Citadel as their seat of Galactic Governance, to be a noose with which they would hang themselves, that their backup plan is no less heinous. That they would rely on the one remaining beacon in the dark, hope. To use it as their weapon, to take advantage of their enemy’s desperation, to give them a hallucinatory chance before dashing it upon the rocks. Easier than dragging their quarry kicking and screaming from the dark places of the Milky Way over millenia.

I also really enjoyed the detailing of the personal cost of indoctrination. To see what has become of a loving father after his mind has been co-opted by the Reapers. I can’t help but imagine the horror the original man must feel at the callousness of his response to the news and wonder if that personality is screaming somewhere from the depths of Irving’s subconcious.

Once again, keep up the great work! I look forward to the next installment!

PS – It might just be because I went and saw the film recently at theatres but was the ‘You didn’t say the magic word!’ text a reference to Jurassic Park? If so then this issue earns a further 9.5 maybe 9.7% increase in awesome. :-)

Quick addendum: One of Jacob’s sentences on panel 12 currently reads, “Not a likely coincidence”. It should read, “Likely not a coincidence” :-)

You know, I never expected Jacob to be the torturing type, but when face with mass extinction, even the most honorable of men will chose survival over morality.

SQUEEEEEEEEEE! My namesake gets dropped in the comic. Probably a complete coincidence, but I still squee’d nonetheless.

Very happy Marauder Shields day. ^______^

You know I am still amazed by the comic, even after all this time this is one of the rare things that I look forward to and it does not disappoint me. The music that comes with the comic, the quality of artwork, the plot. All the little extra detail you put in at the end. This is definitely a very special audiovisual treat. Thanks for the continued dedication to this.

Not exactly sure what happened, but it was awesome nonetheless.

Yeah, it was pretty confusing, I’m glad to not be the only one having troubles to figure out what happened and why – I wonder if Koobs intended to confuse us, though… –> ginger frog, can we have some official word from you?

It has been a while since I’ve read the other issues so I may be wrong, here’s how it reads to me: Irving (subject of the first half off this issue) is one of the head scientists in charge of the Crucible project, the most adamant supporter of its use, however he’s indoctrinated. New data indicated the Crucible may be a trap, Hackett has gone with his gut feeling and the word of Mordin Solis and T’Sima and aborted the crucible mission but has done it without letting Irving know. Here we find out Irving has found out, his plan is vague at the moment but he may be planning to kill each of the members on the list he mentions as they are impediments to activating the Crucible trap.

The man currently being beaten for information by Jacob is Marcus. A cerberus agent under orders from Adam and part of their splinter group of Cerberus. His mission was to sabotage the Crucible with explosives, to stop it by any means necessary, but he unluckily bumped into Jacob, revealing the detonator and thus scuppering his mission. Jacob figures, human agent with a detonator, most likely Cerberus and if he’s following standard operating procedures there should be more than one detonator and/or agent on board. This may be true, but, given that this mission is the work of Adam’s faction, it seems unlikely. Jacob is beating a man for information he doesn’t have. All the while distracting him from the real threat, Irving.

The final panel is a little open ended, but given this is a two parter thats fine by me. The FTHWOOPT and Kasumi’s reaction may be her responding to Jacob’s beating or it may be from a detonation somewhere on the Crucible. Either there is a 2nd Cerberus Agent on board, the explosives were on a timer or it is the actions of Irving. Either he has just caused an explosion in an attempt to remove the ‘impediments’ to the Crucible’s activation or he had set them before for just such an event.

That’s my reading of it (the final part is pure speculation :-)) I might be wrong in whole or in part, like I said it has been a while since I read the other issues, but I hope that helps. Any other questions I’d be happy to help further.

Ah, alright — thanks, man – guess I shouldn’t read koobismic pieces of art at 2 a.m. in the morning, I didn’t recognize Irving and didn’t even thought about it eventually being him **head to the table** thanks for restoring clarity, and I’m super-intrigued to find out what’s going to happen next.

Also, happy birthday to Jeff, if that’s a thing – I’m a little late, anyways. I hope you forgive me :)

I’m particularity impressed by the effort Koobs has put into exploring the effects of indoctrination; I always felt that it’s something really fascinating that the series never really delved into. (The idea of a man suddenly losing all interest in his family and old life is particularly terrifying. What would it be like for people whose family member suddenly stopped paying much attention to them?)
