Additional information

Another shift in tone. This is one of the episodes that seemed just a tad better in my notes than in comic form (there have been quite a few of those, actually – my comic-making skills are still developing), but, hey, what do I know. Be sure to share your comments and let me know whether you liked it! Also, extra Awesomeness Points to anyone who’ll share this comic in any social media. Remember, you can trade them in for a slow, manly nod (just 1000 points a pop).

Also, if you enjoy this episode’s background music suggestion, be sure to check out DeVso on Bandcamp, where you can buy some of his godly tunes.

Phenomenal work once again Koobs!! Such a powerful moment, such wonderful characterization with so few words. This comic reminds me of a Captain Mal quote from Firefly, ‘Out of Gas’ if memory serves, “Everybody dies alone.” There was a finality to that statement and a truth to it that has stuck with me since I first heard it. Yet before that moment, before that precipice is reached and the darkness takes us, we are most definitely not alone. This comic exemplifies that. Standing before that void, before the inevitable, with defiance and comradery as shield and sword. It doesn’t matter that neither will work, it matters that you tried. Hope lived until the last and the line was held to the bitter end. Once again, amazing work as ever, keep up the great work!

Thank you, Greenvale! :) And thank you for this thought, I haven’t been thinking of Firefly for a while, but this definitely is a connection worth keeping. And, hey, just being mentioned in the same post as Firefly is definitely an awesome thing. :D

No problem Koobs. Hope and fan loyalty has kept Firefly alive for a decade, same goes for Mass Effect, Marauder Shields is the embodiment that hope still exists in this franchise :-). I love that Aria is the one to close the door, not Bailey. The choice to keep the door open is taken from him just as much as his ability to affect Haron’s decision. Haron’s choice is his to make and his alone, which makes it a true sacrifice unlike Shepard’s in vanilla ME3. The last moments shared between Haron and Orran are some of the most emotionally affecting in the series. Great job.

It’s always worth checking this site once (or more than once) a day.

As always, love the little touches. Like having Aria be the one who closes the door. The history between Bailey and the turian. Well done.
Good background music too.

Looking forward to the next one.

Holy hell, that was hard to watch. Awesome choice of music, brought actual tears to my eyes, which happened in episode 33 last time when being confronted with the Thorian. It’s really a shame how we’ve already lost some dear readers, because it is now that you and your story start showing their full awesome, heartstring-pulling potential, Koobs.
May I thank you once more for what you give us with the MS series. Never alone!

(since we recently talked about sports and fanatism – you DO realise that slogan is popular amongst fans at soccer games, at least here in Austria? I imagine it is as well in other sports :) )

Right. Liverpool. I knew I heard it somewhere. I was at one match of Liverpool vs. Rapid in Vienna :) though, as I said, it’s being sung in Austria as well.

Hey Koobismo, this is NOT the first time you made me cry, but the latest. And I am sure there will be more awesome pieces of work from you. And not everybody is leaving…, while I just signed on a couple of days ago I have been with you (lurking) since episode # 11 or thereabouts. And I know I’ll be there til the end for the end.

Just saying, D

Thank you, Iver! :) Glad to hear you liked it, including the dialogue. As I mentioned in the little “additional information blurb” under the comic, I began to feel really unsure about this episode during it’s production, not even sure why or when this uncertainty triggered, but… Really glad people liked it either way. :)

It has taken me 51 episode to get the courage to join and comment but right now I don’t care this episode was a masterpiece the music perfect and I swear I’m am drowing in my tears right now. I love how the entire episode tells us about how some decisions aren’t ours to made how we cannot make people make certain decisions because it is their choice not ours. I love this episode because of the way Haron’s choice to stay behind and Aria’s choice to close the door show that Bailey can’t change the choices other people make.

Numquam Soli Vadete You’ll never walk alone I’m from liverpool and while football isn’t my favourite thing that quote is thank you again koobs

Thank you Akila! :) And thank you for joining up here as well and commenting, I sure do know the feeling of forcing oneself to join up somewhere (I rarely comment throughout the interwebs myself), and I am all the more grateful for it!

Definitely, the realization one cannot just decide for others was a big theme throughout this episode. And, hey, I’m actually not a soccer fan (not really a sports kind of guy) – I learned about the connection between that sentence and soccer a few comments above! :D

Ten-Hut *Salutes*
Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood Upon the chaos dark and rude, And bid its angry tumult cease, And give, for wild confusion, peace; Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee, For those in peril on the sea! O Trinity of love and power! Our brethren shield in danger’s hour; From rock and tempest, fire and foe, Protect them wheresoever they go; Thus evermore shall rise to Thee Glad hymns of praise from land and sea

May you never walk alone Sir!

I started college three days ago, and orientation has been incredibly demanding, so I only managed to get to the website. Wow. I’m really impressed by your characterization of Bailey. He’s still in character, just deeper. I really identified strongly with your depiction of Turian and Elcor side by side at the end. That’s always been what Mass Effect is about. As always, it’s a pleasure to read your work.
